One cops journey to overcoming trauma and helping others with mental health
The Fit For Duty Podcast ☝🏽
I didn’t know what to expect in this read. Definitely, inspirational. It got me thinking of all the ways I can contribute to my community, my future, and my family like the author has done. To think of our first responders as people too, I think as civilians we forget that. I’m so thankful for the bravery and openness of Gilbert Rios and his support system for encouraging him to share his story.

This book was more than just a book for law enforcement and military families. Gilbert has a very special way of connecting with people on every level and making them feel as if what they are reading is relevant to their actual life. Mental health in law enforcement has been a stigma for so long, but is slowly and gradually become part of the past. If more and more people spoke up and were honest with their experiences and their tools/processes for healing from it like Gilbert is, you would see a huge decrease in mental health issues pertaining to these careers. Thank you Gilbert for being a voice for a lot of people who are still hesitant and afraid to speak up for themselves.

As a vet I resonated with a lot. A lot of the demons we carry due to stigmas. All the loss we see due to those demons. And the helpless feeling that we get because we can’t change anything. It’s like we are all stuck in quicksand helplessly watching as we all sink. Gilbert brings a lot to light. His words about his experiences are as raw and uncut as you can get. He genuinely cares. His book can be the catalyst for many to seek help.
